Probably a simple SG mod.

Postby BitchPudding » Sat Jan 27, 2018 10:18 pm

SO I have this epiphone SG that plays perfectly but has a slightly shit wiring job. The guy that had it before me added switches for coil tapping alone with a shit version of vintage wiring. The wiring was fixed but I want to simplify things a bit. What I want to do is disconnect the coil taps and the neck pickup, leaving volume and tone for the bridge pup only and keep the pickup selector switch as an on/off. What would I need to do to do this? Heres a pic of the wiring for reference. Thanks in advance.

Disconnect the neck pup from the selector switch by removing the red wire nearest the top of the cavity.

To eliminate the coil tap on the bridge, I think you can just take the red and white wires off the toggle switch and tape them up. It might depend on what kind of pickup is in there exactly.

For sure, ill do that disconnet today and report back.
Pickup in the bridge is a GFS dream 180 I had installed to replace a broken pickup that was there previously.

Seems like as long as red and white are connected to each other and nothing else, you'll have a regular humbucker.

I've always loved those SGs, like the idea, had my goth lp like that for a wile, I made a brass plate that I soked in salt water for a few weeks over the whole :thumb: [guitar now has p90s in it.. still miss the single pickup setup in it though...]

That sounds fucking awesome.

Speaking of P90's, I ordered a GFS Mean 90 to swap for the dream 180 thats currently there. Looking forward to how that sounds.
