Gold foils in jaguar

So I have a VM jaguar that I like and stuff, but I want to make it more fun. Thinking of a pair of gold foils for it. Which leaves me with two options:

1) GFS strat sized gold foils in existing pickguard. Would they fit? Has anyone tried them at all?

2) Buy a pair of gold foils on ebay and get a custom made pickguard routed for them. Would probably require some routing in the guitar, but I wouldn't know, haven't opened it up yet.

Any other ideas? What would you do?

This seems like a good idea to me.

Also, Curtis Novak builds lipsticks for Jaguars that drop right in: http://curtisnovak.com/pickups/jag-lipstick.shtml

Oh those are cool too! I'm kinda stuck on the foils thought but those are an option. Realized that they'll fit the guard, but not the routing. I guess I could ghetto route it

Those Novaks say in the description that they require no routing. :idk:

Also, although they're much less adjustable in terms of height, you could go for some surface mount gold foils. :snax:

I think that sounds like a reasonable option. Pickguardian would cut one out right? I want a black pickguard on my jag anyways

That's how most of my projects start

Good luck, excited to see where the jag goes.

I have a GFS Gold foil in a tele I use for fucking around with slide

Good parts:

It sounds really good. It has a lot of the characteristics you read old gold foils have, lots of pointed high end, lots of clarity, almost piezo like sound.
They are inexpensive.

Bad: The cover is a chintzy chromed plastic cover, not metal.

I've read theres some argument if they are actually 'gold foils' as the construction of the most common gold foils like teiscos are really different than these. I think the Teisco ones had a winding of wire with the magnet placed outside on the side of the winding, these are constructed more like a P90. They don't sound like a P90 at all though. I believe there were vintage gold foils that had more traditional magnet surrounded by the winding construction though.

Thanks for this info! Sounds like a good buy, and in that case I'll go with the black ones
