QF2 (Gold) tone knob

Postby Doctor X » Thu Nov 28, 2013 11:20 am

Tone knob (QF2 Gold only): Overall tone shaping, from treble cut to mild boost. Adds or takes off the sharp upper “edge” for guitar and other instruments.

what is the centre/neutral point where the Tone knob changes from cut to boost? is it at noon or a little higher?

This is from Don Stavely, the designer of the QF2:

The neutral point for the tone filter is at about 1:00 o’clock. Specifically, the cut at 12:00 is only -3dB at 5KHz, so it would be just noticeable. Full boost is +8dB at 5KHz, full cut is -14dB.

Folks should keep in mind that distortion generates harmonic content, so it is difficult to make a meaningful comparison of the “brightness” of the effect signal compared to the bypass signal.

Of course the main controls of the harmonic content on the QF2 are the band levels and the filter frequency control. This is why the tone control is described as “overall tone shaping, … adds or takes off the sharp upper edge” of the effect.

Hope that helps!
