Wall mounting a lot of guitars: what are options?

Postby hangwire » Sat Apr 20, 2019 5:53 pm

Had to give up some music room space and wanting to know about options to get these guitars off the floor so I can put amps under them to offset this.

What have people done? Can non-retail people get those hanging setups like in the music stores? Are there cheaper DIY options? I don’t want to have to buy a dozen of those individual hangers and line up/drill into the wall. How about lofting floor multistands? Anyone tried this?

Pic showing amount needing to be considered in recommendations:

I only have 5 guitars to hang so i just got the string swing hangers, but i've seen a few people with those music store wall mounting systems. For that many guitars I'd probably mount a long 2x4 on the wall and get these. They're pretty reasonably priced

You’re definitely going to want to stagger the heights so you can get more guitars on the wall.
Adam basically nailed it on the head. Backer plate and then wall doohickey

A mounted 2x4 into studs would support that much weight without worry?

Making 2 “tables” to loft those floor stands and put amps underneath seems pricier but safer, especially if I tied down the legs of the stands so they couldn’t snag a strap and pull forward, which never happened but would be aworry to plan for with the height

I actually just screwed my hangers right through the old plaster wall into the studs, which incidentally are 18" apart which is perfect

You could probably wear all of those guitars and do pull-ups on it without worry.
