Yeah, partscasters can be great! And an awesome way to get into that middle-ground between MIM and MIA / boutique stuff, price-wise.

I would have to second the ESP rec, I have (too many) MIJ ESPs and they indeed shit on stuff. Insane attention to detail and QC. I picked up a second hand Les Paul type custom shop that SLAYED an old buddies Gibson Jimmy Page for what worked out at a 3rd of the price. If you're fine with shopping online you could look on the Ishibashi Ubox site (massive Japanese chain store) where they sell second hand gear. They even do 'normal' looking stuff like this chap (my guitar but not my pic):

I played one of these today—it was actually very impressive. Built really well, set up nicely, pickups had a really nice clarity but plenty of beef. Only played it on clean to mildly dirty amp settings, so can't say I've heard the whole range of tones, but it was quite cool, especially for the price.

Syl, you should forget about guitar and start playin' the electric banjo. This one's already in Canada:

Oh, sure, make fun of the banjo! :p Just wait until you hear it through Syl's pedalboard. We'll see who'll be laughing then.

It was a great feeling neck, would describe it as medium to medium-thick. It's lacquered like the body (not sure if they use poly or nitro).

I'm not really into brown and beige. It would look better in another finish.

i can definitely second that esp have top tier build quality and they make pretty much anything and everything plus i do believe they take custom orders but those sweet japan only models, and edwards, esp's gibson copies are second to none and better than gibson in most cases i hear.
