So, I recently started playing bass more often again and building a giggable rig back up (just in case I guess). I got a sweet Mesa head and cab and a badass Ernie Ball bass (EBMM 25th Anniversary 4 HSS, essentially a reflex with a black and red flametop). I decided that I would get one really good bass to keep and be done with it since most of my lust is for modular gear anyways. Before deciding on the EBMM I was looking at Dingwalls (I have had 2, loved them: Combustion and AB 1.5) and I really was blown away by their prices. It seems that they have gone up in price. I used to be able to find a nice used AB1 for $1800 or less and now those are $2200, etc.
I guess those NG2 basses and Darkglass affiliation has got a whole type of crowd of people into Dingwall and consequently driven up the price with more demand. Also, I am sure plenty of people that try the Combustions end up buying other models after they dipped their toes in.
Anyways, I am enjoying the EBMM but it does feel like I settled a bit. I can't stop checking for Dingwalls at good prices. I dig their Super Ps, Super PJs and AB models (anything else is out of my league). MAYBE I can sneak in a trip to Bass Central in Orlando this week when traveling for work but if not, I am unsure if I will get a chance to try any of the Super P models out in person. I am wondering how they feel in comparison to the longer scale basses. Anybody tried both out and have a report?
There is an ABII that looks nice (I can't stand a lot of tops, I don't like overly boutique looking basses) and has a decent price. I might just jump on it anyways but really wonder about Super Ps and PJs.
I know I would get more response on TB but whatever, I don't need to hear from that whole crowd.
There's a Rondo import for $800, but I don't think I could justify that kinda scratch for a Chinese import. There's also an Ibanez which I jsut discovered also costs $800.
Geez, I feel like a douchcanoe. I have totally been looking at other basses and not playing my current bass which is a damn good one. I think I will just play my Ernie Ball for awhile.
