i don't know why i always call that a mustang bass when it's a musicmaster. i have done that since the day one. dammit.

this one was done over 20 years ago and it's a conversion, not a ground up build. with a tele neck it'd look custom, with a MM neck it just looks wrong. i like wrong. :) does that makes sense???

Uncle Grandfather wrote:Yeah, it's stock. I really really like it a lot more as I spend more time with it. I half-way planned on converting it to a standard bass vi pup/electronics, but I'm so happy with the sounds I can get out it that I probably won't anytime soon. It plays so nice too, and is great for working out bass lines and chord changes at the same time. Would really like to be able to fret chords using the low e but it turns to mud.

Sounds awesome! I like the looks of that one a lot. Can't say I'm surprised about the low e chord thing, I'm not expecting much in that department from mine either. I think when you get that low, chords just don't sound amazing. Happens with pianos, synth, anything really... :idk:

Bass VI? I'll see your bass VI and raise you a bass XII (sorry for the repost of this pic). 30" scale tuned to E with octave/unison strings. I also have the 28 5/8" single coil Jaguar.

I will have a Bass VI by the end of April, it's my B-Day and I will make it happen come Hell or Hella...

So, I've got a baritone Jaguar (the older 28 5/8" model with the twin single coils. Years ago I put Duncan Quarter Pouders in there and I love the sound of the bridge pickup...it's like a piano in terms of powerful cleans. The neck pickup recently died (the wiring broke inside). I was never quite as happy with the neck pickup. I was thinking of going with something with more output and bass so I could actually use it more like a bass and then use the bridge pickup more like a baritone guitar. I'm not married to the idea but I don't really have anything else interesting. Any ideas on what might work well for the bass idea or something else interesting? I've also considered ditching the weird circuitry and getting a new pickguard with something more straight forward.

I'm going to pick up a Squier VI in the next month, and I'm wondering what you guys think about the pickups in those? Also, the 1/4 lb idea in the post above is something I'm really considering for the bridge but no idea for the neck/mid. I'll be using it in a two piece punk/hardcore/noise project.

My GAS for one of these is unbearable. Ive never played one though. I need to call around some music stores and see if anyone has one i can try out. I know nobody here in town does, but maybe somewhere within an hour of here.
