I remember when fender started importing the black (with black headstock) jaguar HH. You could only get black and I thought that to be a dumb move.
THEN I searched for jags on ebay and there were japanese stores selling that guitar to people in the states in EVERY color. Burgundy mist was killer on that guitar.
I am told that the fender japan catalog is thick like a sears catalog or a phone book!
THey make EVERYTHING ins every incarnation it would seem.
Once in awhile they made something and the quality was funky but 99% of the time I liked them better than the american fenders. Except the pickups don't always sound quite as good. But usually pretty darn good.
The last bass I owned before I finished my personal Coquette bass was a japanese blue flower tele bass reissue. It was pretty cool!

Don't get me wrong these are cool guitars...but it just sort of underscores my thought that fender is starting to scrape bottom for ideas of ways to keep their line fresh.
It has been a looooong time since they tried to introduce something that was really new.
At the same time....( and on the other hand) to be fair to fender perhaps they realize that people come to them for the things they made/make and new ideas don't fare well for them anymore.
I dunno...just thinking out loud. They are still cool.

Well. Technically if you ask me. electric guitars jumped the shark after Leo created the Jaguar. Everything else has just been filler
