That is pretty rad, @phosphene! Love that pickup config.

I always thought the hum bucker and single in one ring, like on the old Hamer Prototype and Phantom, made sense.

If the hum bucker is the one closest to the bridge, the single is a little less strident than if it were all the way in the bridge, but with more bite than if it were in the middle.

That's interesting!! I've never tried a guitar like that but I can see the logic. The guitar looks great!!

Of course, there is no reason one can't have a neck pickup as well with that setup and a 5 way switch. One does lose the "quack" setting that one can get on a strat, but the single in the position I'm using sounds better, to me, than either a middle or bridge strat pickup.

Here's a bad pic of my newly refinished fabulous Decca. It was a boring dull red 6 string-turned-bass vi via Dano neck and now it's a glittery 30"-scale...uh, tenor bass bastard?

Minus some imperfections I'm pretty happy with it. Still needs to be intonated. The bass bridge isn't as wonky as it looks in the pic but it is kind of offset from the tailpiece and that bugs me...

Also, I dropped the pointy end of a screwdriver straight into it immediately after polishing it.

It's not even just guitars that this law applies to; when I built new desks for my studio, first thing I did was drop a drill pointy end down and take a big chunk out of one.
