I don't know the ES8 either, but looking at a diagram of it, have you tried pretending the DSP trigger input was a pedal's audio input (as far as the ES8 is concerned), and switching the DSP in and out of the ES8 pathway for each beat? If the guitar signal (with you actually playing a note) was sent to the trigger in for the instant the pedal was 'switched in', the DSP may see it as a kind of weird short bass drum signal, and make a dip....
If you weren't playing when the DSP was switched in, nothing would happen.
