Mini on bass

Postby Lebowsky » Tue May 19, 2015 9:43 am

A question to bass players owning a Mini. Do you think it can nail this tone easily?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XppGJTbveo0

The Mini was suggested to me last night, and for now it's the pedal I like most, especially when you weigh in the size factor, but I'd like some users' opinions, and I figured this was the best place to ask :)

I play a (passive) Gibson Ripper through a GK 1001RB-II head and GK cabs.

Thanks!

I haven't had one for a while (still own a fuck though) but I would have to say YES. Yes it can.

I don't think you'd have any trouble getting that sound with a mini.

Well, you know my opinion. ;) I think it can totally nail that tone. I wish I had some samples I could share...I'll see if I can rustle any up.

While I am the first to suggest everyone owns a Mini, I'm not sure you could get that exact tone. It seems a little more compressed on the bottom end than the Mini.

I would say you could get most of the way there, but it's going to sound more "open" if that makes sense.

However, the Mini is the only dirt pedal I've managed to not flip in the past year and a half. So, I say go for it.

No absolutely not even fucking close. The Mini sounds nothing like Helmet's tone IMO.

There's a boat load of other pedals that could, but don't want to talk about them in Brian's forum. :)

The Mini can do lots of other cool stuff. I don't think of it as an Overdrive though and that's what you'd need. It's more of a smashed amp sound. And it is pretty compressed.

At low bias settings its pretty compressed, but the way I have it set, I don't really notice any compression.

I agree about it not being a typical OD. It definitely feels like an extension of my amp, as cliché as that may sound.

Can't say I notice that much compression either, and my bias is set pretty low.

I'm not sure what exactly to call it, but I do love it.

You know what? I'm going to take my mini and see if I can get it to sound like Helmet and post the results. Maybe I'm just dumb. LOL. I'll post a video if I get close! :)

That's awesome. There are definitely not enough good Mini-on-bass vids/samples out there. More is good!
