Please explain. Fuck OD crackle.

Postby GAS KING » Tue Sep 24, 2013 8:42 am

Hello, can anyone explain how the crackle is suppose to work or sound in both modes??

Just picked one up.
In one setting (the light heavy switch) with various threshold settings it sounds like a glitchy overblown sound.
In the other, it sounds like a weird unusable gate. hit a note, and it's quiet/compressed....no gain.....wait a second or two.....and the note comes back LOUD/uncompressed.

Does that sound right?

Yeah sounds about what I get; one setting is sort of blown out, huge low end thing, the other it sort of cuts off all the attack and the note comes in late.

okay, cool.

With such a pedal, it's hard to tell if it's functioning as it should. lol

It sounds fantastic as a gain pedal, but will take some experimenting to discover a use for the crackle.

Yeah it took me a bit of playing around to find a good use for the crackle too. Now I really dig it though, for when I want a really broken Neil Young sorta sound.

I really like utilizing the subtle side of the crackle. It's nice to let the dynamics of the guitar react to the crackle. The more ya dig in on the guitar, the more the sound crackles up and sounds like its either blowing up or sagging away. Try setting the crackle knob at like 10'oclock and be conscious of how you strike the strings and how the crackle functions. I find you can get a more "usable" tone, in the TGP sense of the word.

But what do I know I like getting weird while I fuck.

yeah, i sort of designed around the effect being used in more of a subtle way with the toggle switched to light, but obviously everyone will find their own way.
it definitely takes a minute to figure it out with your particular instrument, technique and location in your chain. the crackle stuff i found VERY useful when recording to just add some extra randomness into different sounds and for dramatic effects when live - try using it POST reverb/delay/fuzz.

The Crackle is also really awesome in a super Lo-Fi way if you put the Fuck in the effects loop of your amp. :animal:

Been trying my fuck today with the crackle on always, threshold set fairly low and gain set high, with the tone in the middle - on the neck pickup it's growly and warm and just a little bit fucked up and on the bridge pickup it's cutting and jagged
Makes me really want a sparkle motion again to goose it

Fuck OD w/crackle into a malfunctioning Yamaha E1005 Analog Delay on guitar, bass, and synth is a sound $20G's worth of pro studio equipment, hardware/software can not reproduce. my boss tried, and asked me to bring back my SS/BS fuck to recut one part.

feels good, man.
