year4545 settings - post them here!

Postby smallsnd/bigsnd » Wed Sep 22, 2010 9:54 pm

i realize that the year4545 (or 2525 if you have one) is not the most intuitive pedal... this thread is for me to post recommended settings, as well as for users to post ones they like --- i would love to see them!

to decipher my organization --
the ... in green means that there are closely related/evolving sounds within 50% of the knob's travel.
if there is not a descriptor under a switch, then it is in the center position.

here are my first 5:

Image

1 - a good velcro-ey fuzz starting point. lowering the instrument's volume should give less compression and more bass.
2 - similar in some ways to the first, although heavier and more sputtery.
3 - super compressed swell-like attack fuzz which fades in after the initial signal hits the pedal. lower instrument volumes produce weird intermodulation artifacts.
4 - this is an excellent example of how the year4545 acts like a resonant filter/fuzz. turning x will sweep the filter, while turning z determines how much fuzz vs filter-sound you hear. all the way clockwise will produce torn speaker sounds...
5 - this is a neat oscillation/sustain setting where lots of harmonics jump out.

i'll post some video clips for these when i can record them!

Glad to see this thread...I've been curious to see an explanation of some of the sounds the 4545 can get..sometimes when you're just hearing one or two sounds..you don't really get the full idea of what a pedal is capable of....makes me want one of these even more :wha?: :grumpy:

sure... it's more or less the same minus the Y switch/knob. though in terms of sound it's pretty fucking different...

so i've been using a year4545 on vocals in one song (SM58 > year4545 > RV-5 > fender twin) for mega feedaback and general dinosaur sounds - it rips pretty fucking hardcore if you ask me.

the settings are:

volume - 12-2 o clock
x - around 10-11 o clock
y - around 2-3 o clock
z - just about fully clockwise
xx - up
yy - center

I'm actually about to take one of these dudes home, Cory asked me to do a demo of it on bass.. so i'm like, puking everywhere due to my stoke-ocity. i'll make sure i try out these settings plus some of my favourites ;]

you'll see it soon kiddo's!
I've got a fuzzbox and i'm not afraid to use it

*pretty nice fuzzy-yet-slightly-stuck-wah sound that would be a good rhythm tone.

x, y switches both set to center.
saturation all the way clockwise.
x set anywhere from fully clockwise to 12 o clock, depending on where you want the filter frequency to be. i was using it around 2 o clock and it was good and upper midrange-y.
y set fully maximum, then back it off ever so slightly. it should be around 5 o clock or so.

now control the saturation with your guitar's volume knob - from 0-6 was the real sweet spot for more fuzzy/heavy overdrive tones, but if you push it all the way up you get an interesting swell-like saturation effect. this will vary depending on how hot your pickups are, though, so change to taste. :thumb:

X/Y switches fully up. Both knobs fully cranked and the saturation knob fully counter clockwise.

Pretty basic fuzz tone w/ a unique texture.

here is some cool setting!

vol: all the way up
x: all the way down
y: about 2 o'clock
z: all the way up
xx: center
yy: down

almost like an octave sounding device!!!

and with the same settings with the xx down, some glitchiness madness!!

Is there a thread like this but for the TAFM? I'd be interested in seeing those as well.
