Mod for Fix'd to change Fuz:2. Possible?

Postby grokostimpy » Sun Jul 31, 2011 10:41 pm

More of a question for Kyle, but I'd be glad to hear any other ideas:

I absolutely love my FF, but I never use Fuz:2, it's just too crazy sounding for me. Is there a way to mod it so that Fuz:2 does something different? I was thinking along the lines of overdrive or maybe an extra tone circuit. If it's as easy as swapping out a chip, maybe I could even do it myself :)

Any ideas?

Have you tried messing with the trim pot inside? Bias for the 2nd fuzz.

There's actually one for the first fuzz as well.

Yes, I actually have one of the older Deluxe versions with the Fuz:1&2 controls on the front. Fuz:2 is pretty out-there on all its settings :)

At the risk of contributing nothing of value to this thread, I just want to pop in and say that I LOVE fuzz 2 on the Fix'd. If you want that wicked lo-fi tone, you can screw around on a Fuzz Factory for an hour and hope you accidentally figure it out, or you can get a Fix'd and tweak it and rock it right out of the box. I also love how "normal" Fuzz 1 is, and then I love the subsequent contrast between Fuzz 1 and that rippin' Fuzz 2. AND, you can run 'em together. What a wicked, wicked fuzz pedal.

Sorry for not being any help at all.

Y'know, the Fix'd already does a nice (if compressed) OD with boost and tone (both fuzzes off), right? Just sayin'. -E

Maybe try combining fuzz 1 and 2 for some more stable, but still ripping/exploding/insert awesome adjective here fuzz tones.

Forgot to add that engaging the boost control seems to tame fuzz 2 a bit as well.

I can't really help since I dont have a schematic. if you start mucking around with DIY you might find that a lot of this modding business is really easy with a little practice and reading. I mean your in a prime spot since you can open it up and trace it for a totally legit purpose of modding your own pedal. all it takes is time and virtually no money.

Yes! and the Shade switch too! Enormous volume boost with the tone control...
You know, I've been thinking and I might just be better off with a Musket. I'll try one and see if I like it.... Man, I should have just bought the Twosome

Well, i just ordered a new Musket direct from Blackout... I'm kinda kicking myself for not getting the twosome originally, but on the other hand the new prismatic-black finish on the Muskets is pretty sweet, so I can't be too sad! :)
