So how close will a Whetstone get to a Phase 45

Postby Mudfuzz » Fri May 28, 2010 7:43 pm

Everything I read about it and the the demos I've heard I like but the 45 has been a part of my rig for ever, I try other phases and always end up going back.

Because the Whetstone does 2 stage I'm asking this. I know it wont be the same. but can it get the sweet subtleness in the area of a phase 45.

Here-> info > http://www.geofex.com/article_folders/phasers/phase.html 45 is talked about about half way down.

The Whetstone does a 2 stage phase but it is a very different beast and seems to be supper flexible, so my hope is it will cop a sound close the the old MXR phase 45 in it's two stage mod.

If you really love the sound of the 45, then you're going to keep it even if you buy a Whetstone. It can get pretty close, but out of the six million sounds that the Whetstone can do, an exact Phase 45 sound isn't one (at least i couldn't dial one in YMMV, etc.).

If you don't mind me asking.
What part of the sound wasn't there for you.

Usually I use mine on a real slow sweep and run fuzz into it for synth sounds live so the sweep time and freq is the most important to my needs... I kind'a figure that the WS won't do that delicate swirly sound on clean of mildly overdriven stuff as I have yet to find anything that isn't just a clone that does. I have no issues with having two phases on my board. I use to have my moog and the 45 on my board at the same time, but the moog is too over the top for my live sound and I need it for other things.

The idea of a phaser that will do 2 stage and do vibe as well as all the other stuff it does really gets me interested.

There was really nothing about the Whetstone that I didn't love (maybe the size, but hey, it has more than a few controls), I just didn't feel like it did the Phase 45 sound.

It does get close, and especially if you're playing live then you probably will never know the difference.

Also, if you like a slow sweep, the Whetstone is PERFECT.

I'd like to request max depth asymmetrical (I'd like to see how univibe-y it can get) as well as 4-stage pads (insanely slow) speed.

Deep pedal... the manual is helpful... MAN IT WILL DO SOOOOO SLOWWWWW... Really though so far it really doesn't sound like any other phaser I've tried, if anything it is very transparent for a phaser. I like it.

Mudfuzz you make me excited.

i just ordered one.

I think phaser is my all time favourite modulation of all time, and if i were an effect and effects had sexes i would be phaser and me and phaser would be gay together

i'm seriously about to "ruin" all music with this. (other people don't like phaser as much as me? :idk: )

but seriously, ask vdp how much phase i keep trying to put on his record. It's gonna happen with this thing. :yay:
I've got a fuzzbox and i'm not afraid to use it
