I had a quick peek at the other CRC stuff and everything I saw was straight contact cleaner. Don't use that. You want something to deposit a silicone lubricant that will reduce wear. I use Caig Deoxit or MG Chemicals 404B.

Good point. My initial google search for "pot lube" opens up a few time sink rabbit holes though.

Wow. So i was doing it pretty wrong then. I bought some deodorant fader lube. That might do the trick. It’s coming in on Friday so wait on bated breath

I threw my standard contact cleaners away when I found out what to use instead for what purpose.

FYI, if you might need it someday: push potentiometers (faders) can be properly cleaned with isopropyl spray and then you have to add a bit of vaseline spray. Bye bye, crackling sounds! (Did also work great with the drawbars of my vintage KORG BX-3 organ.)

And while we're at it: most jacks don't need a replacement if they are simply dirty. My standard procedure is to apply pure isopropyl alcohol on a trumpet mouthpiece brush and swirl it inside the crackling jack. So many used pedals arrived with unreliable contacts at my home. All of them work like new again.

.223 cleaning brushes work wonders as well, probably easier to find in a hardware store stateside.

Seems a bit steep, but less by far than a bunch of pot replacements.

Could go with something like this, but I'd want to consult the MSDS if you're aiming it at conductive plastic pots..

Yeah, the wd40 stuff (NOT the wd40 spray, just a branded electrical contact cleaner) was like £5 and lasted over a year, so 20-25 for a similar quantity of deoxit seems too steep. Maybe I need to go to a DJ tech shop and ask about what people use on old analogue mixers.

Good pots are really expensive. I have an SG that needs new guts. 4xCTS pots, and switchcraft jack & switch and I'm looking at ~£50 posted from UK suppliers. It's enough to make a man buy alpha!

As tuner spray I use Teslanol Oszillin T6. It is pretty cheap. Maybe you can purchase it or something very similar in the UK.

I recently had to offset another mounting point inside of a build, and to do so utilized the pots as mounting points for structural members. You could do something similar with a hole punch and some old beer cans.
