Pink noise issue

Postby Ben79 » Wed Oct 05, 2016 8:23 am

Hi all,

I just finished building a Tim Escobedo Tripple and it was working fine, then after nothing being touched, I turned it on and it became a pink noise generator.

It still passes guitar signal along with the noise. I've tried poking wires and shaking it to see if I can find a loose connection but no joy.

The noise increases in proportion to gain and volume.

Any ideas what could cause this?

Have you poked that carbon comp with a stick yet?

Have you tried hanging a 9 volt battery on the power rail?

I'd also check voltages, if a cap has gone leaky the node section between the collector connected pair will be wonky.

Thanks Curt, I shall report back with some voltages.

The problem went away completely and then completely returned. Weird.

The noise is bad - as loud as the guitar.

Intermittent like that sounds like a solder joint or dodgy connection to me. OR POWER SUPPLY, I never rule out power rails unless I'm watching them on a scope any more.

Looks to have been some poor solder job done on the gain pot. Rewired it in and so far so good.
