I modded my Blue Box!

Post by CyaNitrate »

I know it's nothing new, but it is my first attempt at modifications, and both worked just as they are supposed to. Something of note is that mine is a block letter logo with a red circuit board. The first mod was the famous C11 mod, and it is in the same spot as on the green boards. I put it on a switch to take it in and out of the circuit, but it is much brighter and slightly louder with it out.

The second mod was to add a switch to toggle between one and two octaves down...this on was sketchier because the information wasn't as solid, but it DID work! The steps are:
-unsolder the bottom leg of R23, and run a wire from the resistor to the common lug of a spdt switch.
-run a wire from the unsoldered hole in the board where the resistor was to one side if the switch..this will be the stock down two octave mode.
-the third lug of the switch goes to pin 1 of the 14-pin IC under the volume pot, which will have a square hole. I soldered the wire to the back side since the pot was in the way. This gives one octave down.

And it all worked! the C11 switch is next to the jack, and was a tight fit. The octave switch has plenty of room down in the battery area. Next I'm going to build a true bypass loop and some sort of clean boost to put with it. For now, BB into Phantom Arcade into Black Forest is great fun :yay:
