I haven't liked much of his output in the last few years. Opiate Sun and Ascension were the last records that really grabbed me.
You didn't like the recent Godflesh stuff? Or some of the JK Flesh?
I didn't particularly like the EP earlier this year either. I think I said elsewhere but it is still true: Though I appreciate him pushing his sound into different territories, it wasn't territories that I was able to appreciate. Terminus has some moments that are similar. The auto-tune sound of some of the vocals doesn't do anything for me (think Dowi is hinting at this same thing). I will probably try to give another listen at some point but yes, I don't find this new iteration of Jesu to be particularly inspiring like I did the new iteration of Godflesh.
Ah no, I worded that poorly. I meant Jesu output, rather than JKB's general output. Godflesh is always good, and I like JK Flesh even if techno isn't my bag, he does it in a way that appeals to me (i.e. nasty!). I really like the Zonal LP he did with The Bug recently too. I'd love to hear him do more dubby electronic stuff like that.
I gave the new album a spin. I definitely like it more than the earlier EP, there's a few songs that are along the lines of Opiate Sun. It still didn't grab me as a whole, but I can imagine I'll give it more plays. I gave the EP two goes and I doubt I'll go back to it, it just wasn't for me. It came across as a bit of a messy sound collage, whereas I always thought of Jesu as his slow-core pop project. The album has some chug-pop going on, which I dig.
