Throughout history, there have been some major, huge, culture influencing bands out there...

Who are 2 or 3 that you find to be overrated and borderline (or full) crap?

My list:

Beatles - Sure, they have some good tunes. But they're the equivalent of a boy band--that's what a boy band looked like back then. Dance monkey dance.

The Doors - Fuck Jim Morrison. Oh, cool bro, you got high and wrote stupid, senseless lyrics. You suck and so does your band. Pure crap.

Sublime- This is sacrilege for me as I'm from Long Beach...and I do love 3 of their songs...but sit down and listen to whole albums...vomit inducIng.

Dis-Honorable Mention: Metallica. Deep derp never understood the hype.

Up until 4-5 years ago I'd probably have said Zep but generally I just don't jive with Plant's voice and have made peace with that.

The Clash maybe? They are a great primer for people to get into great bands but I don't think they themselves were a great band.


Doors are great though Raj you're tripping.

Why do companies give Zakk Wylde signature everything? He's awful. I sat through his band when they opened for Judas Priest. There were a bunch of grown ass men wearing the official BLS vests that you can order online. It was like those dudes that wear Sons of Anarchy cuts. Who are you trying to impress? How much meth did it take to make you like this?

You're all heathens and should end up in the bad place. The Beatles wrote tons of awesome stuff, MBV made one of the best albums ever and you shall not question Ride.

1) I'll second BLS.
2) Guns 'n Roses - third-rate, warmed over Aerosmith wannabes, led by a narcissist who sometime didn't even bother showing up for concerts.
3) Saint Vitus - the most overrated band in doom. That being said, Chandler's solos are sometimes amazing. I guess I'm just not a Wino fan.

I've never liked the Beatles that much, but I've always respected them for what they did for rock and roll. And no, they were not a boy band. They played their own instruments and wrote their own music.
The Doors were brilliant, and Morrison's lyrics were ingenious. The Doors were unique, there has never been a band like them and I doubt there ever will be, and yes, they were fueled by Morrison and his lyrics.
Also, Metallica was the only thrash band that was ever worth listening to.

I'd say The Beatles for sure. I like some of their stuff but people are overly crazy about them. I were iconic and I respect that though.

I'm not sure if I think of bands in terms of being overrated generally though. Maybe I just don't like them.

OH! I got one. The Cure. FUCK! I hate them. So many people love that shit and I just cannot understand it.

i totally agree about GnR. i must note, though, that they were pretty much the last big rock band who actually wanted to appeal to the whole rock audience...everybody since then has settled for appealing to a sub-group.

to me, Pearl Jam started sucking immediately after "Vitalogy." i don't get how they have such a huge cult following, and Eddie Vedder seems as annoying as Corgan if thankfully quieter.

and Oasis were never-bes to me. they had a couple of good tunes, but Blur ruled over them like Napoleon over Europe.
