Yeah I agree about Silkworm. Bottomless Pit certainly had a few more "slowcore" style songs and I guess their close affiliation to the Kadane brothers helped with all that. I really love Italian Platinum, that's probably my favourite of theirs. LR72 is such a bizarre song in hindsight, of all the tribute songs to Mike Dahlquist, I think that remains the best even though it's not really about him at all.

Slow Hands was I think the first song I heard from them and it was that weird fuckin' anti-solo he does at the end which is almost entirely clean but really loud completely sold me.

Unrelated, but everyone should listen to this song:

@ummohyeah you should check out Голландский Штурвал (gollandski shturval/Dutch Rudder), they're big fans of Arab Strab and make some really wonderful music themselves.

And for this evening's mood:

They've morphed into a monolithic, soundtrack-making superforce, but the early days showed a lot of fragility akin to slowcore (especially the tracks with Aidan singing):

Nobody feels like early Mogwai.

^^^ Slowcore-esque playlist to get me through work the next few days, as inspired by this thread. Just over an hour long, I tried to avoid using anything that got loud/heavy (the Bedhead track might have the biggest dynamic shifts in it). Deliberately avoided Mark Kozelek, too. Sry.

Hope you enjoy, this thread is great :)

Don't know if this's necessarily "slowcore", but it's slow & I like it:

Bill Callahan is an absolute favourite for me and I love everything he's ever done, including (especially) this Fleetwood Mac cover.

Also, I don't know how far you guys'll allow me to stretch the boundaries of slowcore.

There're slow bands that I'd post that aren't really explicitly slowcore. :idk:

Never heard that band before but I liked them a lot.

I can't speak for anyone else but I'm happy for any slow music really, a lot of the bigger bands in this genre already seem to resent the term "slowcore" so I guess anything slow is cool.
In other news the average tempo for my next album is 43bpm lol.

Stuck in my head for some reason (thanks, Pandora):

The main riff reminds me of a Cocteau Twins song.

Not exactly slowcore in the vein we know but the album Phil Elverum aka Mount Eerie aka The Microphones put out earlier this year, the first since his partner's passing, is quickly becoming one of the best albums I've ever heard. Absolutely flooring on a level only a few albums (like The Antlers' Hospice) have been able to do.

Its hard for me to say that this is one of my favorite albums, mainly because of the content feeling inappropriate for me to say 'favorite' like i am enjoying someone else's suffering for my own pleasure (if this makes sense?) but yeah it is one of my top albums for sure. It is absolutely dismantling and brutal to listen through in a way that i don't know anyone else has done. Part of that just comes from the unreserved honesty too i think.

La Dispute's 'Wildlife" is another one that comes to mind as far as that honesty goes, like the song 'edward benz, 27 times'. But this has nothing to do with slowcore.
