Mac Demarco?

I bought tickets for the Durham NC show for my 16 and 14 year old boys. He sold out the Durham Theater--had to buy resale tix. Definitely a younger crowd, lots of college kids. Me and a couple of other Dads were hanging around outside on our tablets, reading and whatnot. :)

What does ILF think of him? My guys love him, and I've got some mid-20s nephews and neices who love him too.

Personally, I think he's got some good songs but I kind of find his stuff boring. I don't know if it's the repetition? Lack of dynamics? Not sure what it is, but I just can't connect with it. Am I officially just a geezer now?

Definitely can be boring, but I'm a fan of the first 2 lps. Catchy riffs and melodies, got that lofi warbley guitar. I think what stands out about him is that his songs are generally happy, which is hard to find in a scene that thrives on self pity.

I think he steals a lot of melodies?

I dunno, there was some synth line from some Japanese synth guy that was copied note for note for one of his big songs..some other kinks song melody that was copied note for note for another one of his big songs.

"dude chillout, its a homage"
:poke:
..nah

People keep recommending him to me but I keep being bored by everything I hear.

mac demarco's alright. there's better, more unknown "indie" guys out there for example, my friend neal from ghostlimb's solo project: https://nealsharma.bandcamp.com/

Ok so I'm not alone.
Yeah I mean some of the melodies are good (i hadn't heard he'd ripped some off--yikes)...

"Dude chillout" does seem to the mantra there.

Apparently he covered running with the devil and don't fear the reaper.

Ok listened to his first album. He's singing an octave lower. I'm confused.

I don't get it. And I don't get how every other indie band I saw 2015-2016 was a direct ripoff of him. It's such a limited sound.

The tape was played slower or something. "Mac Demarco" was a character for a oneoff loose concept album thing, but it caught on. I like Baby's Wearin Blue Jeans on that one, but yeah a lotta his output is kinda meh.

I dig his music. There's kind of a subscene of that stuff with some really cool artists. Namely Sean Nicholas Savage, who's apparently buds with Mac despite making more enjoyable music.
