WEED put out a new album this year. It's their last? Bummer.

Still pretty early in the year but so far my list is looking to mostly be:

90% nostalgia controlling this one but Godfather was really solid

After 9 years of waiting, it's still growing on me and I'm glad it's finally here.

Big step up from his last effort.

Otherwise been a bit oblivious to new releases this year.

Haven't listened to it yet. I saw them live, they rule!

They played the next town over from me but I couldn't get off work. Really wanted to see them.

Solid release. Better than the last album but still not as good as the masterpiece DESERVE. A real shame there won't be another album but I totally get it.

This delivered. Really cool, listened to it twice. Probably will listen to a couple more times. Lots of cool riffs and it really is what it says it is...sort of a discourse into various 'flavors' of Death Metal. Like goroth, when I hear 'throwback-ish death metal'...I'd rather just listen to something else...in my case, DEATH's album 'Human' instead.

Listening to this now https://bocian.bandcamp.com/album/constitutional. New (release, recorded 2014?) Russell Haswell. Never heard of this label but it is a Polish label specializing in avant-garde so by rule of thumb it is probably awesome!

Sacred Bones has put out some awesome stuff this year. I generally operate on the premise if it's a Sacred Bones release, the music will be awesome. They reissued the ERASERHEAD OST. A new ZOLA JESUS is coming out soon. I've been listening to the following three LPs on heavy rotation.
PHARMAKON- Contact
BLANCK MASS - Worl Eater
INSTITUTE- Subordination

Not on Sacred Bones but the new ANCIENT METHODS EP was the tits.

I've been increasingly distrustful of Sacred Bones releases over the last two years. They've done some real stellar releases in the past but Pharmakon has released pretty much the exact same album three times now and it's getting so tired.

Also just out of curiosity, why do you capitalise all the band names?

Haha! A habit I developed from texting. Is it annoying? I can stop.
Disagree with you on PHARMAKON. Love her work. Seen her live twice. The way she spoke about this album in interviews is how I felt watching her. Very trance like.
The only regular Sacred Bones artist I'I'm not wild about is DESTRUCTION UNIT. On paper I should love that band though so maybe I need to revisit.

Although I did mean to preface, thanks for the input Olin! Even if we do not agree, thanks for engaging. I'm listening to Death Rock Vol. 2 tonight. The first comp was sweet. Chuckjaywalk, I assume both comps are in your wheel house.

Ulver is perfect.
DMST is amazing
The Jesus and Mary Chain is decent.
Ride is fresh.
Slowdive can suck my dick.
GAS is yummy.
Arca is meh.

I want the new Boris to be good, after all the reviews I've read, but everyone said Noise was amazing too so :idk: I haven't listened to the new City of Caterpillar either but I bet it's a solid 4/5.

Sad to hear that about Weed, Deserve is really cool!

This is a hot jammer from this year that I didn't see anyone mention. I don't know how to embed anything so hopefully the link works.

It just feels like you're shouting the band names and it makes me a bit tense to read lol.
I've seen her live too and she's very good at what she does, I just haven't seen/heard her do anything new since her debut. I rate Marissa Nadler quite highly among the Sacred Bones artists however, but she hasn't released anything this year that I know of.

I did not enjoy the new Ride at all.

Ty Segall is my current front runner.

New Drew McDowall makes me very jealous. As does Earth + The Bug.
