Be(a)st Records of the year thread, 2017 (version)

Fri Jun 02, 2017 5:04 pm

All right. It's June. I remain totally fucking awful at keeping up with new music.

What I haven't missed (that you may have and should rectify):

GNOD: JUST SAY NO TO THE PSYCHO RIGHT-WING CAPITALIST FASCIST INDUSTRIAL DEATH MACHINE

GROWING: DISORDER

Have heard the new Elder but since it just came out today (and actually inspired this edition of this thread) I'm not sure what I think of it yet.

Clearly there have been more than four great records that have come out this year (aside from my records because lets be honest they clearly lay waste to everything else). What have I been missing so far?

I loved the new FULL OF HELL and new CODE ORANGE.

Its waaaaay too early to call 2017 without my list being entirely made up of hells headbanger and nuclear war now releases. I just wanted to chime in to say that rocky horror picture show is one of the lowest points in human history and, had it come like 60 years earlier, would have justified both world wars and the holocaust. you can throw in vietnam too.

Dude you know how you text me being like "hey the new X is really garbage"?

This is the opposite of that thread. This is where you tell me the good shit.

Also body count put out an album this year. So did Papa Roach. WILL THEY MAKE THE LIST?!

New Dodecahedron is a fucking masterpiece.

Ep by Extremity is one of the most legit expressions of throwback-ish death metal without being a parody or making me want to jam Dismember instead

New Immolation is killer as usual.
And I'm liking the new Artifical Brain a lot. At first I was a bit meh because it is really different to their last album, but it's really growing.

Agreed. Will have to check out. I loved the last ARTIFICIAL BRAIN so that is going on the list too.

Need to spin this.

I've been enjoying the infectious grooves of the new Mutoid Man. Not sure where it lands on any lists but it's great. Also enjoy latest Fall of Rauros. I don't even know. I've been listening to Cult of Luna/Red Sparrowes/ISIS/Mogwai/Explosions in the Sky on repeat for the past two months so what do I know.

SPOILER : show
nothing.

i've made a few threads about some of these bands and their new albums but i figure it bears repeating.

dreamdecay - yú: post punk from seattle featuring alex gaziano of science amps

Image

do make say think - stubborn persistent illusions: triumphant return of maybe the most consistently great post-rock band i know

https://domakesaythink.bandcamp.com/

Image

antethic - ghost shirt society: excellent post-rock 3 piece from russia featuring a whole lot of low end girth, atmosphere and well crafted sampling

Only new album I've bought this year is Noam Pikelny's Universal Favorite, which is really great.

Some people hate it, as it's almost Ulcerate-like. But once you get over that it's pretty Brainy. And the production is a million miles better than the latest Ulcerate, which was so brickwalled I couldn't even sit through it. Which made me sad because they are so good.

Falls is also great!

You are both clever people.

I've been listening to this a looot recently. I love Land of Talk and this is the first album they've put out in something like 7 years, I'd started to think it was never going to happen (warning: nice tunes and poppy hooks, not ilf approved  ). And it turned out really good too!

That Dreamdecay album is fucking rad. Also, I really enjoyed the new Pissed Jeans.

Oh, the new Pile is great too, but not very fuzzy, or ILF-ish in general.
