Have heard the new Elder but since it just came out today (and actually inspired this edition of this thread) I'm not sure what I think of it yet.
Clearly there have been more than four great records that have come out this year (aside from my records because lets be honest they clearly lay waste to everything else). What have I been missing so far?

Its waaaaay too early to call 2017 without my list being entirely made up of hells headbanger and nuclear war now releases. I just wanted to chime in to say that rocky horror picture show is one of the lowest points in human history and, had it come like 60 years earlier, would have justified both world wars and the holocaust. you can throw in vietnam too.
New Immolation is killer as usual. And I'm liking the new Artifical Brain a lot. At first I was a bit meh because it is really different to their last album, but it's really growing.

Need to spin this.
I've been enjoying the infectious grooves of the new Mutoid Man. Not sure where it lands on any lists but it's great. Also enjoy latest Fall of Rauros. I don't even know. I've been listening to Cult of Luna/Red Sparrowes/ISIS/Mogwai/Explosions in the Sky on repeat for the past two months so what do I know.

Agreed. Will have to check out. I loved the last ARTIFICIAL BRAIN so that is going on the list too.
Some people hate it, as it's almost Ulcerate-like. But once you get over that it's pretty Brainy. And the production is a million miles better than the latest Ulcerate, which was so brickwalled I couldn't even sit through it. Which made me sad because they are so good.
Falls is also great!

I've been listening to this a looot recently. I love Land of Talk and this is the first album they've put out in something like 7 years, I'd started to think it was never going to happen (warning: nice tunes and poppy hooks, not ilf approved ). And it turned out really good too!
