Keyboardists in white turtlenecks doing sax solos....

Postby SPACERITUAL » Sun Sep 18, 2016 12:17 pm

...I mean was there ever a point where SOM weren't the best band in the entire world?????? No idea why they didn't end up selling out stadiums. I guess the world picked U2 instead...

I mean their drummer is just a keyboard named "Doktor Avalanche". How can you not love that it sounds like a GI Joe villain???? What more do you fucking slobs want seriously.

The Doktor was a BOSS DR-55.

Fuck, SoM were great, one can only dream of a dimension where they are the Uπ.

I love them. Floodland will probably always be Top 10 for me. I've heard they used A Yamaha RX-5 as the drum machine for most of that one.

They might not have sold out stadiums, but they did a lot better commercially than predecessors like Christian Death or Alien Sex Fiend. I think they were the bridge that shifted "Deathrock" towards "Goth Rock"*, and spawned a million cheesy, uninspired sound-a-like bands and subsequently got lost among them.

*I know genre distinctions are mostly useless, but that's how I mark what I see as a pivotal moment in a series of events.
