How interesting would it have been if the early Miles Davis Quintet had Elmo on the piano stool? Not sure that was really the groove Miles was looking for at the time, but I think it might have added some interesting spice....

Yeah, it would've been interesting. Might've taken too much of the spotlight away from Miles. :idk:

Elmo Hope's certainly spicier than Red Garland/Bill Evans/Wynton Kelly. Certainly a bit more Monk-ish.

Dennis Budimir--Sprung Free

Just read an interview with Dennis in an old Guitar Player from 1981 or so that I found in the local junque palace. It was a little sad reading about his regrets in getting out of the jazz business and into the session business. Apparently his only albums as a leader came about because a local aficionado asked to tape some jam sessions and later started up a tiny local record label.... Anyway I like this actually--he's got a fairly unique sound and style--seems like an antecedent of Pat Martino's.... :idk:

Yeah--I found those last night looking for his albums...enjoyed Frisell as fanbwoy, and Dennis seemed to be in a good place. Always nice to see musicians rollin' in their 8Ts....

Sounds great :joy:

Keep coming back to this. As much as I've loved a lot of the Miles reissues, I think this is my favorite latter-day lost trax re-ish, main-streamish div. I want my effin' Ayler box back though....

33 years ago, the pride of East Stroudsburg was still kickin' it fine in his 50s with another three decades of blowin' to go....
