 Reminding me of musicians who became Muslim and adopted a Muslim name, I'm sure he's come up in the thread before:

Jazz songs stuck in my head:

2:08 min onward is fantastic! Ahmad Jamal lets the music breathe. The whole arrangement is a very clever thing as well as all the recordings from that live session. It is one of the best selling jazz albums with good cause.

I love the duets of John Coltrane with Eric Dolphy on this song. I listened to the complete Village Vanguard recordings (4 CDs) and I like all the versions of "India". I prefer the ones with Ahmed Abdul-Malik who assumedly played the tampura (and not an oud like it says in the disc notes). It gives a nice oriental feeling.

righteous stuff, Pepe. The Pershing Lounge sessions are truly classic (as I'm sure Miles would agree), and of course Dolphy and Trane was a meeting of Titans - def a case where I enjoy the alternate verzions.... :)*

I also chose this album at my last visit at the library. I only knew Cannonball Adderley's album "Somethin' Else" with Miles Davis and I liked it. But "The Black Messiah" is exactly what I love! The first track is so awesome. I heard it through my Discman (Pepe = Old School) yesterday evening when I was going to the grocery store. I didn't have the booklet at hand and I was wondering who that badass keyboard player was. I thought: I have to explore more of his music. Then I read that it was George Duke (RIP! ) and I already have 2/3 of his discography. This is from 1971 and he uses modulated tape delay, ring modulation and a low pass filter. Plus he plays incredible stuff on the Fender Rhodes even without effects.

I need an own copy of that album now.

One of John Gilmore's forays into more mainstream Jazz:

^ That sounds great from the first five minutes Chank I will definitely bookmark for the future.

EDIT: The piano solo at about 7 minutes blew my mind :excellent:

EDIT 2: Whole set is most good.

I realise this is a basic classic and everybody has heard it before except me but I've been listening to this a lot today and everything about it is fantastic.
