Live Acts You're Most Looking Forward To

Postby HAVN » Tue Jun 30, 2015 10:28 pm

Shiner: July 19
Dawn of Midi: July 25
This Will Destroy You, Life and Times, Deafheaven: July 26 (Wicker Park Fest, just a few blocks away for the princely sum of $5)
This Will Destroy You: July 27
Sumac: August 5
Del Rey: August 26
Cult of Luna: September 4
Old Man Gloom: September 6
Caspian: September 25
A Place to Bury Strangers: September 29

I feel a little bit a fool that I didn't go to see Jaga Jazzist last week. Saw Mono June 18, and The Dø on June 2. Gotta love the music scene in Chicago in the summer.

I should add that I'm opting out of Riot Fest this year. I can't handle the crowds, even though there are some great acts playing (e.g. Drive Like Jehu, Swervedriver, Hum).

Melt Banana, Festival Supreme (Kids in the Hall, The Darkness, MST3000, Jazz Tenacious D, Super Dave Osborne), Empire of the Sun, Motorhead, and Chrome. I've got to look to see if any Japanese punk bands are coming through (people like to keep shows a secret around here). I think I missed Front 242 (which kinda sucks). Maybe Consumer Electronics but I don't know if they are making there way out here yet.

My wife is really excited about Peaches and St. Vincent even though we saw both last year (Peaches was with Black Sabbitch and covered Sabbath songs at a Luchador match and we also saw her at Festival supreme). I think she wants to see Blur too for like the 500th time.

ArcTanGent festival is the big music event of my summer. Lineup is killer as always: Deerhoof, Vennart, Her Name Is Calla, Toundra, Delta Sleep, and probably a whole bunch of bands I don't even know I like yet. I always discover something cool there.

Failure, Hum, KMFDM, Neurosis, Earth, Wovenhand, Godflesh, Dean Ween Group, Dinosaur Jr., Gwar-b-q. Probably won't have the bread/time to catch all of these but I've got tix already for Hum & Failure so at least one is gonna happen.

Not sure what I'll be able to attend but I'm thinking the current Say Anything tour in Boston, July 10 (the one Cymbals Eat Guitars is supporting).

If I play my cards right I could nip over to the second day of the Green River Festival and catch The Milk Carton Kids, tUnE-yArDs, and Antibalas, among other acts...

Have you seen Failure or Hum? Hum is super fun (but sounds slightly rusty, which makes it even more fun), and Failure was excellent both times I saw them last year.

I think my brother and I are also going to fly to Tampa to see The Mercury Program. Always been a dream to watch them, but I've never had the chance.

My bassist told me about these guys like two weeks ago, and said he saw them open for Nils Frahm. I had taken a PTO day from work that day and once I finished my first listen through their record I immediately walked up to the record store to buy it. They sound like what I imagine a jazz trio of machines would sound like. Doesn't sound human.
