Trying to work out if I really like the new Alcest or am pretty ambivalent about it.
haven't listened to new Alcest yet but they're coming through here in a few months. should definitely check it out.
i've been enjoying the new downfall of gaia. it's been my dog walking album of choice for a bit.

Not really black metal, but I think this seems like an apt place for this:
What are some bands similar to Jodis? I know I can probably just listen to anything by Aaron Turner, but that's a pretty big world and really different. I love the sparse, minimal eerie junk. Any suggestions?

A) Jodis are awesome -- as are all the related bands. Blind Idiot God isn't what you're looking for here, but you should check them out 'cause they're criminally underrated.
B) As far as Turner is concerned, you'll want to check out Mammifer. Other vibe-similar rec: parts of the Khylst record (track II and VI, especially, because if you start at the first track you'll think this is a terrible fit:

i really enjoy mamifer. loved their new album. drives me crazy that the latest albums isn't in iTunes yet (subscription to Apple Music, so...) i ran out of plays on the band camp page.

Listening to Mamiffer now. Really digging it. Thanks for the recommendation! They have a lot more catalog than Jodis which is nice. Some new tape to wear out.

word on the streets is that new material may be coming in early 2017. (edit: for those of you who just listen to the song and don't read the fb post)
also. caladan brood is a character in the malazan book of the fallen series which is an awesome epic fantasy romp that i highly recommend.

Aw, man, I love Summoning and Caladan Brood. Great to see them acknowledge their (very very obvious) influence
New Drudkh split came out in September and I just found out! Wasn't sure I'd see the day. Hopefully new proper album in near future.
https://drudkh.bandcamp.com/album/betra ... -h-gringarI wonder if they'll tour...? I could get to see them live or maybe get killed trying to make it through the Antifa brigade, either way, fun!

Like it just fucking RIPS
I like it better than Blood in our Wells in some ways, it's an absolute no-bullshit record
Tight as fuck, that band is a living breathing organism

I started the first Malazan book but law school killed my desire to read.

Gardens of the Moon is also the hardest to get through in the series.

I'm actually enjoying it a lot (GotM I mean)
