Went into this thread to mention the new Deathspell release.
Good to see that wasn't necessary. :animal:

You should check out some more of their albums if you're not familiar. They're far more complex, in song structure and theme. Portal is also 1000% more theatrical. I do like Portal alright though. Now I feel inclined to check them out again, actually...

I posted this a page or two back, but it bears repeating :)

I like that a lot, much better than the new thing.

Just because the guy likes to wear the china cupboard from beauty and beast on his head don't make them 1000% more theatrical :p as for listening "to me" Vexovoid is their best album :idk:

I think portal is theatrical in the music they make - there is a sense of drama to how full on they go for everything, and for the tangible sense of "feeling" that pervades their music. Deathspell is more prone to rocking out and doing typical muso things.

I too like vexovoid. New Deathspell is very good though!

oh, I wasn't trying to shit on Portal :) I think their aesthetics are pretty creative.

What I meant by the theatrical comment was that Deathspell has never played a live show (at least as far as I know). So...that compared to a band like Portal....

I'm with ya dude - was just countering old mate blackened's idea that the theatricality was in their goofy outfits - I think their music is inherently more dramatic and theatrical.

The new Deathspell Omega is black metal?

 I know, what I said was from earlier in the day when I got someone to check them out and that was their initial reaction :idk: and I must always share and spread bad humor, it's important.
