Pelican has some of my favourite drumming precisely because of how sluggish it is. It's like the scene in King Kong when the T. Rex falls down the ravine and lands in the swamp at the bottom, breaking at least one of its legs in the process, but then still gets up and lurches determinately towards Naomi Watts anyway, like some half-formed ball of teeth; that's what Pelican drumming sounds like to me. It's great, I love it

I haven't listened to this new Myrkur yet and I'll get on it. I liked the old one, but it was basically Bergtatt with a female vocalist, that's the only thing that bothered me.

Is anybody into MAMALEEK? They're honestly just one of my favorite bands let alone black metal bands.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Primordial. They don't have a new album atm, but this is one of my favorite songs by them:

I know they're not straight-up black metal, but you guys have discussed Drudkh in this thread, so... yeah

I had never heard of mamaleek but I'm really digging it. I searched for this thread because I wanted some black metal to do homework to. Listening to their last album, it isn't what I was looking for but I'm loving it anyway.

I don't care if they're "not black metal" the new Gnaw Their Tongues album is out and if you are reading this thread you will probably love it.

A new classic. Feel the slow burn of dissonance.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poQ-tg7Nypk
This is the Black Metal equivalent to 'Still DRE' wherein I don't care who or what you are.... it can be your Grandma... once you hear that main riff come in you're banging your head. Like with 'Still DRE' you hear that piano line and everybody goes "AHHHH SHIIIIT!"
"SWIPE LEFT ASSHOLE!" -retinal orbita
"Whatever ASSHOLE here’s my pedal that makes humpback whale noises and also it has a built in sequencer so stick it in your craw! -retinal orbita
"Patty Mullen takes me from a ball peen to a sledge" -The Great Velvet Hammer
