Lots of butthurt assbanditry happening here.

Which I guess makes sense in a shoegaze thread, the most tender-emotioned genre this side of whispy-haired-straight-edged-youth-repressing-their-burgeoning-adulthood-in-too-tight-jeans-music.

Surprised nobody's mentioned Pale Saints. The songs where the lady sings are the best ones. Go grab a copy of "In Ribbons" and come back to this thread and suck me off for leading you to Popgaze water :D

Hey when someone comes into a "recommend me some shoegaze" thread to bitch about shoegaze... It's like joining I Love Fuzz with the username "fuzzhuggersucks."

It's cool if you don't dig shoegaze but don't shit all over a productive thread.

EDIT: Anywho, Swirlies' song "Upstairs" on their album 'What to do about them' is one of my favorite songs. When I want shoegaze I tend to go with the S bands... Slowdive, Swervedriver, and Swirlies. I don't consider Loveless as my definition of shoegaze. Loveless is damn near it's own genre.

Which raises the question...

Why wasn't I born in a world where all the vapid women with low self-esteem listened to MBV and Ride when we were ignorant 15 year olds?

Can you imagine?

Just saw the fuckin swirliessssss last saturday it was awesome

my bloody valentine's loveless may be the quintessential shoegaze album, but it's most certainly not the only one. There will never be any band that can remake that record. I mean secret shine, the fleeting joys and the lilys have all tried making records that try and do that. And under it all, i know it's hard to believe for some, but loveless is a pop album. atleast 8 of the songs on the record have hooks.... obviously overshadowed by the sheer amounts of guitars.

its fucking awesome.

but so are the rest of the bands doing it differently.

and if each band mentioned prior were successfully able to recreate loveless it would all of a sudden be the cool bandwagon to jump on and creation records would have been equivalent to what the late 90's jade tree offered for emo, you know when major labels were trying to scoop up the get up kids and promise ring because they were doing the same sort of thing and thats what was cool...

the pumpkins were a pop band. and i believe the term shoegaze was coined due to the pumpkins. they are another band in which nobody has been able to touch.

god shoegaze is awesome lol

anyway i figured i'd beat a dead horse for a minute.

i didn't see the fleeting joys (sorry if i overlooked them) mentioned but they're sick.

also, Slowdive is probably my favourite band. ever.

Just for a day is immaculate 'nuff said. the way they build textures is a masterpiece in itself. Just for a day has so much delay on the keyboards and guitars at parts it actually distorts. I love that shit.

why i don't have a shoegaze band? i don't know. I've always wanted a band to create massive textures with layering melodies/be a pop band at the same time. but also play super slow and drop tuned...

the song christmas song by medicine sort of is what i want to do but with much, much more.

Wiz, out.

Sig'able!

Also, has anyone heard the new Ringo Deathstarr, "Colour Trip?" It's pretty damn awesome. Srsly.

I believe that I owe PP a tip o' the hat for turning me on to them in the first place.
