I think I need a new delay

Postby Bon Hoga » Sun May 27, 2018 1:46 am

I've been using an Ibanez DE7 for years now, it's got everything I need from a delay pedal except it cuts off the trails when you switch it off. Please recommend me a delay that's as similar to the DE7 as possible, but preserves the trails. I'd prefer a mass produced pedal, and if I have to go boutique I'd rather not spend a tonne of money.

Sounds like you should just mod the bypass with a tails bypass circuit.

I'm not sure how much room there is inside, but, theoretically, if you wire the normal bypass on it so that it's always on (plus isolate the in/out jacks), you can rewire the switch it uses normally for bypass and then stick something like this into the battery space and wire it to the jacks.

It's a little involved, but it's probably cheaper than getting a new pedal, plus you don't have to search for something else that sounds like the DE7.

Really??

The DE7 is awesome and all, I know. But modding a $30 pedal, while there's a ton of sick affordable delay pedlols on today's saturated market? :idk:

I wish I had the same kind of abilities to control my GAS, I've flipped perfectly good pedals for the most silly reasons

I don't care what it costs, it's my favourite delay pedal.

If you happen to have a stereo pedal that sums to mono after the DE7, then you could use a Line Selector as a tails bypass. e.g.:

LS-2 output 1 > DE7 > Stereo Left In
LS-2 output 2 >>>>> Stereo Right In

I have others but it's absolutely one of the best delays ever. I have searched for something similar and I've gotten close but nothing else nails that soupy edge-of-oscillation-but-sits-under-your-playing thing it does in echo mode.
Tone is in the directional cables.
