RM-1N with synths?

Postby ancientbones » Mon Feb 19, 2018 7:48 pm

Anyone have demos of the RM-1N with synths? I'd like to use it for dubby synth stabs as well as chaotic drone.

Can it handle both?

It can but I found its character much more appealing on guitar and sold mine after moving pretty much exclusively to synths. But that's totally just me and my opinion. Each RM-1n is a little different though, and mine was one of the super early ones.

Any suggestions for reverbs that can get crazy but still go well with synths?

The Meris Mercury 7 and Empress Verb are awesome. The Eventide Space goes without saying.
The RM-1N might work well for you though, there was just something that didn't quite work for me.

I personally use VST verbs mostly these days. You can get so much functionality for a fraction of the cost of a pedal. But that depends on the context of your synthesising and whether there's a computer involved much/at all etc

My goal is a full hardware setup for dark techno stuff.

Given that the RM-1N is sorta a reverb with pre-amps on either side, you could try experimenting with pairing dirt pedals with a reverb? The Eventide Space gets huge and weird, but it doesn't really do dirty as far as I can tell?

I used my RM-1N exclusively with synths when I had it. fantastic pedal for that.

All the low end throb on here is a RM-1N'd Korg :

And this has a ton of RM on it as well (plus the "lead" is all Echo Degrader)

good deals are here.
escapecraft is here.

Have to agree with Ev_O))) concerning the RM-1N. It seems most of the nuances will be lost, when switching between guitar & synths. If you want a droning, self-oscillating verb, that can also serve as a plug-and-play verb, you might look into the Stargazer V2. (synths after 3:43)

The Shift Line Astronaut V2 has been on my wishlist for a while. It seems to cover the massive/spacey territory as well as a lot of more expensive units. (all synth demo)

I actually love it with piano and synth but I can see why people might not be as into it because some of the unique character of the reverb probably gets lost with big synth sounds. Which doesn't mean it sounds bad, just that another reverb might be as good?
