Which is the best chorus for highlander?

Postby coldbrightsunlight » Thu Jan 18, 2018 9:19 am

I have a chorus/vibe dilemma.

Got a Fairfield Shallow Water and while I really like it I find it's often too subtle and sometimes I just want a normal chorus or vibrato sound as well as the random thing. And I don't want to have more than one chorus pedal.

What options are out there for things that sound really good and preferably have a little room to get different (wave shapes etc) from the standard chorus. Kill dry for vibrato is very important.

Warped vinyl looks potentially cool but is also not cheap. Anyone know of any other cool pedal that might fit the bill? Not too large is also preferable.

There can be only one, so which one?

I will order a Mid-Fi Deluxe Pitch Pirate this week. I hope this is the one.

Ok I think the thread has been won time to pack it in.

Yeah this seems like a nice option. Straightforward and nice sounding, couple of waveforms. Definitely on the list... pitch pirate also intriguing but seems a bit biased towards the wacky range of pitch modulation I don't see a great use for. :idk: would like to try though

Julia seems to be the best example.

If you're a little less interested in the waveforms, maybe the Moog MF Chorus. Does chorus/vibe, gets flangey with high feedback, can act a little like a double tracker since it is a true short delay line with modulation. Just doesn't have waveform options.

I did look at that one a while back, looked nice. Seems like I have demo watching work to do

I never tried Julia... but most demos seems to sound steryl and lifeless.
But yeah... YouTube is compressed... so I might be wrong.

I just got a Julia in the mail. Compared to other chorus pedals I've used (MXR, Boss, China clones), it's seemingly brighter and could be considered sterile. That's why I got it, so it doesn't effect my clean sound too much when engaged, but I can see why that wouldn't be the case for everyone. To my ears it sorta closely matches the tone of my JC-22 chorus but with more flexibility to get weird with it.

You might want to check out the Earthquaker Sea Machine as well. It has most of the options you’re looking for. I’m not sure if it technically does fully wet vibrato. If not, it gets really close.

I had one for a while a few years ago and loved it. Definitely considering another, it's on the list for sure!
