It's the end of a brief era for the copper HiFi.

So.... why did we need to switch? Well, if you follow our newsletter you know we had to a couple big blem sales with the translucent, copper finish. We were going into uncharted territory a bit with that style finish and unfortunately we just had a relatively high percentage of them that were not coming back perfect.

The circuit is unchanged, but the knobs have a hint of gold and the finish is matched to the MKI. Looks sharp to me.

If this has the same algos as the Reverb and the Echosystem, I may need more than one. Like the Reverb much more than the Ventris (don't understand the Ventris, it's kind of vanilla, the reverse really sucks and it and PC editor are buggy as fuck) and like the Echosystem a good bit more than the Nemesis though would not be able to do without the degrader and helix on the Nemesis. Really looking forward to the Zoia, see what it is capable of and how easy it is to use. Empress is way ahead of Source Audio and other in the usability department.

the sounds on the OG drum brute were so uninspiring to me. like half the knobs did almost nothing or something that u wouldn't want it to do at all.
jived w/ the roland boutiques tr 08 & 09 way more and way faster.

Here's some notes for people still chasing BOC textures & more.

Artificial Noise has unveiled the V2 of the Chimerian Caves desktop (no stomp switch) model. It offers Echo/Vibrato/Chorus + Fuzz.

listen to Soundcloud clips--

I believe the 2nd batch of the Dot Chaser is about to rolled out (check their social media or sign up for their mailing list).

Finally is a Costa Rican builder who does a vibrato, fuzz, trem (his latest), and more. You may have seen his 150 seconds with Knobs back in 2016. eQ.circuitos is a small, 1-person shop, and I think he only builds a couple batches a year. The prices are fairly standard, but the shipping is not cheap at $30 to the US (unsure about other countries). At that price, it's probably best to bundle or split a shipment with a friend.

Same, sold mine pretty quickly after buying it. Don't think I've ever spent time with another drum machine so desperate for character, was pretty much worthless without effects.

I literally couldn't stand mine without effects. The Impact does look like a nice revision of the Drumbrute, but everything I've heard sounds the same.

I find that that's true of all non sample-based drum machines (and at least some of those, too). I think of it the same way I do electric guitar: yeah I could plug it into a DI straight to board, and that's a sound I can use, but 99.9% of the time I am using at least amplification or saturation, if not a speaker and room ambience or reverb or effects, etc etc etc.

I don't have a drumbrute, that's just been my observation working with drum machines. I don't consider it a fault, just part of what the instrument is.

You need to play with a dsi tempest or elektron analog rytm.

I think it's more the old school or set sounds drum machines rather than the more complex synthy ones that fall flat

Often times all you need though is some drastic eq moves

maybe my expectations were off, i just couldn't understand some of the sound design decisions they made.
which i felt made it really hard to dial in any type of sounds that i found useable.

i don't care what type of drum machine it is. set sounds (rompler) or analog or whatever. i've tried a large amount of them.
if the sounds are phat they are phat. and vice versa.
think thats why i usually gravitate towards samplers tho b/c they can be anything you want them to be.

Yeah I upgraded to a Rytm after the Drumbrute. Though it does have built in effects, the raw sounds just have more oomph, body, character, whatever you wanna call it. The Drumbrute felt super flat in comparison. Of course you always wanna add on fx, but I think that core sound should ideally be there. :idk:
