Kowloon Walled City tones?

Postby BoatRich » Sat Nov 18, 2017 9:42 pm

How’re they getting those guitar tones? A large part of it seems to be fuzzed out bass with relatively clean guitar?

For the bass, I'm pretty sure I remember reading that the dirt on Container Ships was a black Russian muff while Grievances was a Rusty Box.

Guitar is Distortion+ / 250 tones, at least some of them. Worth reading: https://benadrianaudio.wordpress.com/20 ... led-bunny/

I'd recommend reading a bunch of interviews with them, they're pretty open about the equipment and process for their records.

Guitar is VTM60, Distortion + with a broken diode, BD-2 and a chinese Les Paul (I think it's Greco or something like that).

I also forgot about that video too, but that and the link with the Kowloon Walled Bunny definitely explain it. I have a pretty similar rig so I’m definitely trying that out at practice.

This was Scott Evans' pedalboard as of last year, into a Hi-Tone or Hiwatt Custom 100:

Have a KWB, it is like 95% of the clean tone. Sounds glorious, obviously. Rad band, rad pedal.

I wonder if I could get close with a Gray Channel on the no diodes setting or just by clipping one out of a 250/D+

Guitar is an Edwards LP custom with a swapped out bridge pickup (i forget what's in it)

Pretty sure Scott uses an old Traynor as well as the VTM. Broken d+ is a huge part of the sound.

Scott's a really chill dude. I emailed him about his guitar a couple years ago. Awesome band.

It's been four (or almost five) years but Skully did mine to the 90's early 00's 250 reissue. Maybe PM him? Bigger caps and a starve instead of a diode "brokeness" knob as well/in place of some of the BAdrian mods. Sounds tremendous.

Also Mr. Evans has an account here but I don't think he posted much other than in BST which is a bummer.
