Did my amp just die?

So I got an orange or 15 head off Craigslist back in April. Thing is dope and totatlly shreds. The past few weeks I have noticed less volume and when I switched from 7 to 15 watts I didn't really notice much of a difference. I honestly thought this was all in my head seeing as I am not using the a ton.

However, today when I plugged it in I got nothing. Like total silence. Made sure everything was setup right and then just went direct into the amp. Nothing. Whe I crank the volume/gain I get a slight whine and or rattly sound.

What happens? What do I do?

Do you know anyone with a tube tester? That would plant suspicion on either the tubes or the amp, otherwise your best bet is to grab a set of output tubes.

Only a service tech who has the amp on their bench can report on the quality of life the amp is currently enjoying.

Funny story, the other day while driving around this song came up on the radio. My wife, who majored in the english language, said that "died" was once used as slang for "ejaculate" in the victorian era or some similarly alien landscape of civilized history. It seriously put a cool spin on this song.

In French la petit mort (the little death) means an orgasm, not sure if that's related?

30 years later we are still unlocking secrets of 80's dirty songs. That is the morale of this thread, right?

Oh, sorry about your busted amp.

Amps alive! Used another head and had the same issue. Opened the cab to find that when te dingus I bought not from put the new speakers in he just taped the wires together instead of doin a splice so one of the came undone. Thanks for the knowledge and mythology of the truth behind such a misunderstood tune

You are AMAZINGLY lucky that didn't cook the head.

Tube heads do not like no load or intermittent strangeness like that and it's an EXPENSIVE repair.

Always check a cab's wiring!
