It was inspired by it, but the base design itself is from the WASP filter.

Fair enough - I mean it doesn't add much 'new' without the filter, but it is extremely sculptable & I guess microtube-based fuzz is new to me. I don't mess with gain pedz too often, so I guess a lot of common practices might feel innovative to me.
whoismarykelly wrote:The idea is cool but what you would end up with is either a tremolo or a modulated wah or a phaser or whatever that just always has dirt on it. Its less cool and more gimmicky in practice. See the Cusack Tap-a-scream.

I dunno, ramping the 'Color' on the Ayahuasca lead to some pretty interesting results that weren't quite like any of those things. The ability to run the ramps in opposite directions would also make it very different (ie, setting it so that as EQ goes to more hi-cut, more gain is introduced - not quite alike any wah/phaser/trem I've heard). I dunno, it really depends on how the gain circuit is designed I think. It could definitely just sound gimmicky though

culture vulture was inspiration - mostly in the use of the pentodes. obviously i ended up going in kind of a different direction!
wasp is at the core of the filter. i've built some in the past and always loved them plus i tried 3 different filters for PY and the wasp was the one that fit right in terms of sound, features and feel. :thumb:

I've been so tempted to buy Beetronics because their designs are so dang beautiful. I dunno how much I'd actually use them, but their eye candy ratings are killing every other builder right now

I mean, I love fuzz (tm). But it's true, it's not an innovative ground for pedals. :idk: Anything "new" that I've seen in the realm of fuzz lately just sounds the same or worse than what came before.

I agree with this like 99.9%, but uhhhh, the Pretty Years :poke:
I mean, that's not just a fuzz of course, and that's what makes it so versatile. But with CBA the ability to ramp fuzz parameters in real time without interacting with the knobs at all is a pretty nice innovation, wouldn't you say? It's not like they'd forget their dipswitches if they are releasing a fuzz. I would like to see something else, but I wouldn't complain about having a fuzz that could automatically raise & lower its gain/bias/EQ. Maybe that's just me though :idk:

The Ayahuasca is kick ass, so yeah, I'm all for it
