Here's a trial run form factor of the upcoming fuzz/distortion build. The circuit is roughly an initial gain stage followed by a phase inverter (as in, long tailed pair type circuit, NOT a phase shifter); this essentially splits the signal into two feeds, which are treated differently from one another and then summed at a discrete differential amplifier section to single ended output. Standard units will boast dual inputs & outputs which offer the utility function of active Y cables. Voltage requirements are essentially being ignored to the best of my ability, and beyond the negative tip center, I am making sure the unit will operate on supplies from 5 to 30 volts DC. Of paramount importance is the ability to pass LOW frequencies, and this has been a guiding force for the duration of my experiments.
The unit as pictured (left) is a further, as yet unproven, experiment for CV support (which will be an optional modification). Non CV units will fit into the smaller enclosure.
Of course, there's a rub. In order to bring this unit together in a reasonable window of time (realistically a month, as the plan is to utilize a real printed circuit instead of hand stuffed protoboard, though I'd be lying if I said protoboard pre-runs will not exist) I'm requesting pre-order funding interest to see this process through. My target cost per unit is hovering at $150 each, baseline - that might rise once full costs have been realized. The limited offer I extend is a pre-order for a complete baseline unit for $100 plus shipping (which has pretty reliably been in the $15 domestic, $30 international [EU, UK & AUS] range, I can provide a region specific quote on request (shipping cost can wait until units are ready to ship). Saving the $50 is in exchange for a bit of a wait, and I apologize for that. Units will be fulfilled in the order at which pre-orders (if any) are received, I will CAP preorders at 36 units, beyond which you'll have to wait. Paypal address is crochambeau@gmail.com.
Hound me with questions & keep watching the stars. I hope to have a malformed demonstration by end of weekend.
