Rochambeau Musical Apparatus Dirty Doper

Post by BLOOD EAGLE »

and for post #100, i will totally cheat and re-post stuff from another board for a friend, aaaaannnnddddd. some of you will REALLY like it:

Here's a trial run form factor of the upcoming fuzz/distortion build. The circuit is roughly an initial gain stage followed by a phase inverter (as in, long tailed pair type circuit, NOT a phase shifter); this essentially splits the signal into two feeds, which are treated differently from one another and then summed at a discrete differential amplifier section to single ended output. Standard units will boast dual inputs & outputs which offer the utility function of active Y cables. Voltage requirements are essentially being ignored to the best of my ability, and beyond the negative tip center, I am making sure the unit will operate on supplies from 5 to 30 volts DC. Of paramount importance is the ability to pass LOW frequencies, and this has been a guiding force for the duration of my experiments.

The unit as pictured (left) is a further, as yet unproven, experiment for CV support (which will be an optional modification). Non CV units will fit into the smaller enclosure.

Of course, there's a rub. In order to bring this unit together in a reasonable window of time (realistically a month, as the plan is to utilize a real printed circuit instead of hand stuffed protoboard, though I'd be lying if I said protoboard pre-runs will not exist) I'm requesting pre-order funding interest to see this process through. My target cost per unit is hovering at $150 each, baseline - that might rise once full costs have been realized. The limited offer I extend is a pre-order for a complete baseline unit for $100 plus shipping (which has pretty reliably been in the $15 domestic, $30 international [EU, UK & AUS] range, I can provide a region specific quote on request (shipping cost can wait until units are ready to ship). Saving the $50 is in exchange for a bit of a wait, and I apologize for that. Units will be fulfilled in the order at which pre-orders (if any) are received, I will CAP preorders at 36 units, beyond which you'll have to wait. Paypal address is crochambeau@gmail.com.

Hound me with questions & keep watching the stars. I hope to have a malformed demonstration by end of weekend.

Here's a peek at the circuit mentioned above in action:

Very cool. Not sure I'll be able to have the cash ready for a preorder unless I sell something/get a discount from Reverb, but definitely excited to snag one in the future.
good deals are here.

The videos are all private? Love the look....

Ah, explained on FB--he's going to make a new demo.... Thread comprehension not my strong suit.

From the sounds of the video prior to privatization, this is one rude fucking pedal.

Sent an email about preorders. Hopefully I can snag a spot.

well his primary audience/focus are straight-up noise dudes like myself,
i just thought there would be some crossover interests in a nasty fuzz.

i would have dropped his noise generator (the one on the right hand side in the second picture) here too if i thought there would be interest.

just solid stuff from a solid dude.

2 things are important to remember

1. he is not a guitarist

2. this isn't the final circuit yet

HAHAHAHA, what's wrong with my guitar playing? NOT LOUD ENOUGH

Apologies on my flip flopping of video access yesterday, I didn't realise they were out in the wild already and my account was still in stasis. I've made a note to myself to NOT cut any sort of demo on the tail end of 12 hour days. Those are all dreadful, you could say I'm taking requests now...

unless the request is for better playing, can't help you there. :animal:

Here's a map of the controls. I'm figuring on making the CV support standard which will adjust the end price a little, but I'm not one to go back on my offer so the pre-order offer stands. As BLOOD EAGLE (thanks man!) indicates, this is still a somewhat rough circuit and refinements are in the works. I want a little more tooth (and crushing masonry), a more compartmentalized self oscillation and more low end. ..and would it kill you to allow for more natural mids? Anyway, appreciate the good words, this prototype was made with feedback loops, drum machines & synthesizers in mind, tailoring to guitar was (is) going to wait until the circuit has graduated to a printed board.

Got it, you are cemented into the first run. You are now authorized to crack the whip if you see something you don't approve of.

Yeah, sorry. The lead was a little buried. At least for my easily confused brain.

Preordered and stoked.

Got it, thanks! Yeah, pre-order is $115 shipped conus (inclusion of shipping is NOT required to commit a slot, but it is appreciated & recorded). To reiterate: pre order is going to fund manufacture of the PCBs, which will take some time, I will be wholly forthcoming on the status of the project, but I'm gritting my teeth and preparing for a month. In the meantime, I'll work up the enclosures in the next couple weeks and give selection rights in order of commitment (the patina will range wildly).

$150 was my initial target for eventual cost, my decision to make CV (and footswitch) standard will impact that eventual price which has not been settled upon yet..
