I somewhat remember somebody in the band being pretty close with them and a whole bunch of other bands. I wasn't really online in those days haha. I'll look at some flyers.

You actually might have? They had a couple fairly successful albums before the social media boom. (I mean that in the context of I know you were active in the 2000's.)

On much less major scale... PEDESTRIAN DEPOSIT makes a lot of their own instruments. They process theirs through pedals though.

Did some poking around. I think we played with the dude a lot when it was a solo thing or at least we were at the shows. Turns out he is from Tulare (which, when I heard the name, I knew he was from the Central Valley but couldn't exactly place where). Can't find any flyers though...but we played like 6 or more shows a month and sometimes 3 a week. Bakersfield had like 6 "indie/punk/underground" clubs at the time (Jerry's, the gate, Munoz gym, going underground, the mint, silverfox are the first that come to mind).

There were some out of town bands we played with a lot too (Roman Gabriel Todd's Beast Rising up out of the sea and Militant Children's Hour).

Thanks for the reminder. Found the flyer from when we played with Shearing Pinx.

Who's gone to a garage sale of thrift store to find singing bowls lately? This guy HAS NOT!

At one of the improvised music series I like to hang out at/play at occasionally I did a short duo set last night adding some manipulations and elaborations to some singing bowls:

The series is "self-curated": you can just go to a spreadsheet online and put your name down to play with whoever else does the same, so I hadn't even met this person before, but she was cool! There was supposed to be a third person as well, but they were sick and cancelled... it worked out pretty well, as I was just trying to leave as much space as possible for the bowl sounds and not get too busy with my pedals.

Might rip this off YouTube to have an mp3. Good stuff bro!

:joy: If you hang tight, I can do you better — I recorded it with my mics + it came out with a bunch more clarity than the camera mic at the back of the room.

I can hang tight... might just do both? Idk, YouTube mix was fine to me. I used to rip Ugly Nora’s stuff all the time!

Listening right now, being improvised it sounds really well balanced. What have you used to process those bells?

Main ingredient on the bells is the 60 Second Delay, going into a loop pedal that I just left to keep overdubbing. There's a little bit of 856 noodling (which doesn't cut through a lot but adds a layer) going into ducking reverb.

The organ-y pad sound is from a borrowed 2-oscillator drone synth going into a patch on the Zoom Multistomp. (You can hear some of the un-effected drone-buzz in the second half.)

I saw a few in a antique store the other day... somewhere on the WA side of the columbia river... they wanted more for them than new ones.. on the other hand it might have been the coolest antique store I've been in in 20 years... they even hand most of a double bass...

New type of plate reverb?

Now that is pretty awesome! It would be interesting to place a speaker face down on the ice and play guitar through it and then have some piezo pickups maybe 10 or 20M away to record the reverb! Maybe some of the Scandinavians here could try it? It doesn't get cold enough to freeze the lakes here...
