Caline Power Supply?

Post by snipejd »

Anyone have any experience with these? I need a supplementary on for my board, are these any good? Don't feel like dishing out for another Voodoo. Are they noisy?

any other of the cheap ones you can all recommend?

They are actually quite good for the price. I have 4 of them on my board. 2 Calines and 2 Joyo branded. But the same shit. They aren't noisy, but don't get fooled by the isolated bullshit. Don't plug any delays into them. I got clock ticking noise plugging my Deluxe Memory Boy into it. I ended up using a cheap Power Bank supply for my delay and digital verb and no problems with noise.

No, they use switch mode power adapters to power them. They have no transformer inside. I think a transformer would give them some kind of isolation capability. Don't quote me on it though. Maybe someone with more electronic knowledge might be able to chime in.

There is no fucking way they are isolated. At least not for that price. Not even Cioks is isolated like Voodoo Labs. Fucking bastards.

I can open mine up at some point but I don't believe it is isolated either.
Doesn't make it a bad deal though
I think it is a way better supply than a one spot
has cool LEDs
and they are pretty quiet to run
the 18v option is huge for me as well
cables are relatively short which worries me when thinking about an under the board option for it.

it has to have some type of step down setup in it because the incoming power is 18v
I may just crack mine open and take a peek

That looks like how an mxr power brick works. 18v in, eight 9v out, and two other higher outputs.

guh I've really had an issue with non-isolated options in the past so I REALLY need something cheap that's truly isolated, here's some other ones I found - maybe you guys can let me know more about the other one and then give some thoughts on these?

hum, pops, that noise from lights on faders, etc. It's mostly when you get into a venue and it's power is pure shit. I used to have a rack with a PC in it but it just got too much to bring with so I sold out of the rolling case game.

Yeah I know what you mean. I get a lot of noise from the fridge. And the wiring in this house is real old. Like 70 years old so I get some noise that sometimes drives me crazy. You might need one of those Power conditioner things that a lot of dudes Round here use. I've never used one so I can't tell you much about them or whether it will work for you or not.

yeah, I mean using the Voodoo power supplies fixes this for me, just wanted to see if any of those are isolated and filter like the Voodoo labs but at a lower price.

My guess would be not worth it. I think the problem will only be solved by spending a decent amount of money on a good supply. I don't gig anymore so it's not worth paying big bucks for clean power. And I play noise rock, so when I record stuff I find a little bit of outside noise is acceptable. It's only some fuzzes that get real noisy and I only hear it when I'm not playing so I can edit that shit out of the tracks.
