That says it all I guess. Just when I thought I finally found THE Hendrix-y octave fuzz...It turns out I wasted a ton of time checking demos and reading reviews for nothing

That's too bad. But I would say to keep an eye on ebay. They had a bunch of Experience pedals up there as recently as a couple of months ago, and they weren't selling very fast.

To be honest, I tried the Experience and it's not that special.
It's just a Tone Machine clone with a reverse effect that's a bit awkward to use, there's loads of better Tone Machine clones to be found, for instance the Homebrew Electronics UFO is much fatter, heavier and nastier sounding than the Experience in my experience.

That is a bummer if they went away. I really liked them.
I think the Experience is pretty awesome. I think it lead to tinnitus for me. The upside is they do show up on B/S/T and on reverb occasionally.
There are tons of options out there [as already stated above].
If you want a hendrix octave, there's a few good options out there for you to consider: Roger Mayer, Chicago Iron, there was a Captain Coconut on here not too long ago.
I don't have any experience with the Hoof Reaper, but it might be worth looking at. There's so many octaves and and fuzz options, you can solve this problem. I am not sure how you'll solve the "swell" element, but I think a snappy envelope filter might get you most of the way there.

Yeah, the HBE UFO was a close second, and since prymaxe has it on clearance sale atm, and I just read a couple more "UFO beats Experience" type reports...It's back in the running:)
What's bad about being "just a tone machine" clone btw? I'm assuming that refers to the fact theres plenty of tone machine clones out there, and that you don't mean that there's anything meh about a tone machine...Cause I thought foxroxx was supposed to be the bees knees?
I'll check out the other candidates that were mensioned too, to my surprise there's a couple of them that managed to stay under my radar, thanks for the tips.
What's the consensus on the MXR Machine btw? There's one for sale locally, not sure how much to offer the guy...
Dunlop JHOC1: Dito.

Re: Where did Prescription Electronics go??
A good Tone Machine is awesome, the Experience not so much, it's actually one of the worst and weakest sounding Tone Machine clones I heard so far, but that's just my opinion ofcourse.
It all depends on what you want from your octave fuzz.
A Tone Machine doesn't do broken octaves and different textures that well and it's also not the best if you're looking for those heavy low doomy scooped type of octave up tones but it's great for a nasty and prominent octave up that tracks all over the neck and a general thick heavy fuzz in my opinion.
That's why I'd say it's best to get one with an octave up footswitch, the UFO has that feature and it's also one of the best sounding ones to boot which makes it basically a no brainer in my book.

Thanks for that, I'll remember that for when I can afford a UFO. $172+ int shipping is still not exaxctly dirt cheap, even IF I can convince em to make me a deal and knock $15 off :s
Seems like people are asking STUPID prices for their 'Experience' pedlols anyway, seem like they try to cash in on the fact that these peds are sorta hard to come by now

Exactly, just some overhyped bullshit.
I hate Prymaxe, but you could try the SAVE30 code, it'll knock off some dollars I think, other than that they do pop up in the classifieds or B/S/T or whereabouts every once in a while.

I really liked P.E. I never had an Experience but I can vouch for the Germ as a killer clean/dirty boost. The overdrive side isn't perfect for everything but it sounds awesome into a Marshall style amp.

my p.e Face Lift is one beast of a fuzz face. also has a separate octave up stomp that is active all over the neck, and can be used on its own to stack with different pedals. pretty righteous pedal.

that's too bad. i had one of their Rx Overdriver pedals a while back, and it was really nice. never tried the Experience, though.
