Re: Let's see your EXPERIMENTAL TABLETOP GEAR

100% I was going to caption it with 'the masters of table-top" but I didn't want to inadvertently offend anyone. But they really are to a degree. Those first three albums were made with "table tops" of stupidly inexpensive equipment. I don't know if you read interviews with them (I'm sure you have) but they used to get pieces of gear for what amounted to a few quid in late 00's.

Here's a dated picture of my tabletop rig. The pedals change around a lot because it borrows from my pedalboard.

Notable changes: BigSky is swapped for a Cathedral
Nanokey is swapped out for a Key Step
Pitchfactor rarely on the tabletop nowadays. Same with CT5
RC20 is swapped for a DL4. More conducive to hand looping.

Yeah, they're just good musicians who don't need the latest shiny fancy gear to make good music :)
I'm not sure what Ben Powers uses for Blanck Mass and I stupidly missed them here a couple of months ago but a friend apparently knows him and went there (I saw photos of both together and thus realized I forgot about the concert, with Ride in the lineup too  ). I'll ask him when I see him...

I very much like this. I wanna do something similar with my SK-5

I had/have something a bit similar with my Reface YC but before that it was an SK-1 (well, Concertmate 500 ;) ).
Now it's YC -> Boss PS-3 -> SS/BS Mini -> Boss RV-3 -> Boss PS-3 -> EHX 22500
Very nice drony/melodic noise machine :).

That sounds really great. The dual PS-3s sounds like a great idea. I'd probably want a timebender because timebender

Notable. Why the change, and how’s it working for you? I really need to try a Cathedral someday.

Sick setup. :joy:

He uses much nicer things but still not a lot. I had a better picture of his home studio in Edinburgh per twitter but I can't seem to find it. It was basically the small euro case below, some volcas, and a couple other things (no FUCK BUTTONS toys though).

Actually, I couldn't live with myself if I couldn't find it so while writing this post I went after it. Edinburgh studio being set up before 'Dumb Flesh'. It's not at all like I initially described

That is an insane setup. Is he using the Volcas built in speakers and not plugging them into anything?

I don't think so, but I don't know. When that picture was taken everything was still in process so I don't think all his mixers are set up. There were drum sounds on 'Dumb Flesh' upon first listen I was like, "That's a Volca Beats sound! You can't fool me!"

Cathedral is on loan from a bandmate and I sold the BigSky for money. I've got a Meteore on my guitar board and I'd like to see how that works out. I might get a Mercury 7 if there's a Black Friday score to be had.

I do miss the BigSky though, but the Space was the best tabletop reverb I've used!

Rad! I have a weird thing about obnoxiously large gear. I assume those are custom modded?

No, everything is more or less dead stock. I did plumb the XLR connector on the bottom unit (and the banana jacks, but those have around 180 volts on them and was a bad idea).
