Should I be concerned for this guy's safety?

Post by theavondon »

So, there's this local pseudo-promoter in town that fancies himself a sound engineer. The one time I met him, he was an hour and a half late to turn on a PA and put a mic in front of me, and that was the extent of his work as sound guy. And, he "books shows", but never like, ones that are...oh, how do you say, good? Yeah, good. Anyway, he's apparently dabbling with electronics now, and he posted this to a FB group he added me to and I've never un-joined.

So...yeah. I'm worried that he's gonna like...kill himself with voltage if he goes on to bigger things. Considering, he didn't know the difference between power and pre tubes. So, should I chortle from afar, or should I actually step in and help out some guy I dgaf about? Prevent the trainwreck or watch it all happen?

does he actually have any clue about how to get the proper plate voltage? if he does, it could be catastrophic.

If he reaches proper plate voltage, he'll get shocked once and then learn that electricity hurts, a lot.

Or one of many other scenarios, eventually though something bad will happen and he'll either learn properly or stop playing around.

I have seen working amps in that sort of state though... i'm not sure if the person knew what they were doing and didn't care or didn't know what they were doing and got lucky.

You should tell him to film the construction process.

He's going to end up discharging some caps and take a trip to the ER.

Haha, that's so perfect! From your description of this guy's persona, I'd expect exactly this.

I know someone very similar only female. Not sure she's ever posted something so stupid for all to see tho. Not yet I mean. ;)
