Zvex Sonar Demo

So, I whipped up this little diddy... Just looped a simple thing, and tweaked the knobbies on it. Not a very intuitive demo, but you get some idea of the sounds.

Yea, the delta is cool than in the video. If its set to slow down, you tap the speed and it will slow down from that point or remember it as you bypass it.

So you can hit bypass and it will go really fast then slow down, then you shut it off and do it again, or just tap your new fast speed.

I liked it. It sounded good, and had cool features. My issue was that the more practical everyday (or live) controls were buried as secondary functions. And then you had "delta" and "duty" on top. Made no sense. Seems like the idea/designer won the victory over practicality.

Do you just need to hold down the tap tempo to adjust the depth? I suppose it's not ideal that some settings aren't visible.

Yea thats it... But the duty knob controls where the peak happens allowing symmetrical or asymmetrical wave shapes. Why in the world would this be a primary knob? Instead the depth and waveshape are secondary.

I mean, in theory it doesn't sound like a deal break, but for me it was.

I get the impression that Zvex expect people to primarily use the pedal as a choppy, square wave tremolo and have tried to emphasise the more unusual features. Probably should have found space for a dedicated depth knob at least though.

I'd be cool with that. But the ability to single out the SHO booster would be cool and make it more functional. Also, EQ options would be good.

Get a Fairfield Unpleasant surprise. You can get Machine sounds and better.

Still kind of want one of these. Seems like with the Machine built in you could have a super small board if you wanted it

I had one and loved it. Best coolest tremolo. I think Zach just likes to change people's minds about how the guitarist interacts with the pedal. I do see how depth taking a few seconds to access might be obnoxious to some, but it's great that you can control where the on:off with a knob. Pretty different feature. Also the fact that you can basically create so many different waves since you control the on ramp and off ramp and the ratio is insane! It's so unique. Also the speed up and down is cool. Especially, when you tap a tempo and it reset and then tap a tempo and it resets and then tap a tempo and then it resets. You really could make some different and interesting music out of it.

Only reason i don't have it anymore is because some offered a Gnome for it and we all know why we're here. I do intend on getting one again doe.
