New-to-me amp day!* It's a Baby-Hiwatt!

Image

* Well, Friday was new amp day. Still figuring out how the power scaling, gain, and master volume interact. It's complex, and if you think you can just dial down the power scaling and up the gain and master volume to get crunch, you instead get fizz. It needs some power behind it. Shown in "power scaling doubles as a standby switch" mode in the picture while it warms up.

So far I like it a lot, as a contrast to my slightly-more-American Ampeg GVT15 cleans-to-country/classic rock machine, this is another clean machine. Doesn't sound very Marshall-ish to me. (This has a 12ax7 and 2x EL84s.) With my Jazzmaster and my existing Vintage 30 cab, it is very bright. Perhaps too much so, but rolling off the treble on the amp and on the guitar helps. I'm getting a new cab and planning to try the Hiwatt+Fane-inspired Weber Thames in that cab as a darker, flatter alternative to the Vintage 30 cab.

Also, the aesthetics on this are on point, and I kind of enjoy not having a reverb or effects loop (running a simplified board with a pedaltrain nano right now, to boot.)

Many thanks to skully for being my personal tone advisor on this. :joy:

not much has change. everything pretty much tops anything else I try
orange cabs are loaded with 8ohm V30 from mesa amps (these just sound better than the orange V30, :idk: )
fane 2X12 is loaded with Studio 12L
The Mesa 4X12 is four EVM-12L. heaviest cab I've EVER had to lug around...
Bergantino NV412 stock... what bloody great sounding cabs.

amps: 90's Orange OTR 120w & SVT-VR
the DR201 is gone  fucking glorious amp, but bandmates could never be bothered with how dumb loud it got "aren't the others loud enough?". fair point guys...

I don't doubt it. The little delinquent has been fostered in many ILF homes.
