Rogue Fuzz (Goya Fury -> Guild FW-3)

Post by devnulljp »

Alrighty then. Snagged this on fleabay for $pretty_cheap. Sounds like a very angry Japanese Giant Hornet in an oil drum. Leaning toward the Maestro, Orpheum, and Fuzzrite buzz box kinda sound. Real gnarly garagey 60s sounding fuzz -- although the pot codes put it at 1972ish? (pots read 1132722 / 304 V 7226, which I think is Stackpole 1972 week 26? The other one is some manufacturer part code?)
I know D used to have one of these, and according to analogguru, it's a member of the Applied, Conrad, Goya etc. family and the missing link between the Goya Fury Box and the Guild FW-3 (one of which I just missed on ebay for next to nothing ).

EDIT (thanks Stu): Trannies are a TI 2n5781 (Si, PNP) and a 2n5172 (Si, NPN).

Pretty cool.

Wow. First off, that hornet video blew my mind. Also, that looks like a really really really really amazing fuzz pedal. DAT P2P

Those Japanese hornets are evil fuckers.
Huge too.
They can sting as many times as they like (which is usually a lot), they inject not one but two flesh-dissolving enzymes in their venom, and their jaws can cut through just about anything biological, and they can quite happily kill you.

Pic for scale (not shopped)
