Perfecting The Bitquest

Postby chuckjaywalk » Thu Mar 10, 2016 3:08 am

I've seen a few references to changes people would make to the Bitquest and I was wondering, what would your perfect Bitquest be like?

Mine would have footswitching for the fuzz/clean mode, which I doubt is possible, envelope control, and a compressor.

It would be cool to get new patches for it I think.

The reverb sounds awesome, the other effects are in a way more quirky but still sound great.
For now I mostly use it as post fx with the filter, bitcrusher and reverb.

I never use the dirty mode, for me that could be left out completely.
good deals with: the_brow, phantasmagorovich, alexsga, DarkAxel, goroth, The Wood Wizard, Tendollarcat, vbps, monkeydancer, intothegroove, Brobee

Two BitQuests...in one enclosure. With a third stomp for dirt, compression, and...oh wait, I'm just building a pedalboard now.

I love my BQ; no real gripes. But it's fun to dream.

Perhaps there is a misunderstanding?

We do not perfect the BitQuest! The BitQuest! perfects us.

I'm starting to find the whole thing a little bit frightening.

Remember you have to turn the effect type dial after flicking dirty/clean for it to take effect. It has to do with how the FV-1 loads patches.

Envelope control would be amazing tho
I have assumed control of Mojo Hand FX

god yes, i love it as it is but there are some things i've been thinking about. i'd just get it as a 2nd one if it got out

flanger is awesome. slower sweep? whatever. <3

filter could be envelope instead of resonance/feedback, 50% of the sweep on ctrl 0 would affect ctrl 1, the other half ctrl 2?

bitcrusher i don't know a bunch about. i mostly use the sample rate and i like it for what it does.

reverb is <3<3 love that the dirty side is reverb into dirt too.

notch filter doesn't stand out on clean as much to me (unless running harsh/weird things into it). if possible tune this closer to a phaser/vibe or similar and switch envelope for LFO control. on the dirt side this is the best mode, straight up fuzz pedal beast.

OH YEAH! Have a look at the stone deaf pdf-1 and have the ctrl 2 in dirty mode go from cutting to boosting where 12 o clock is neither (so basically, if i understand it correctly, right now the ctrl goes from cutting a little to cutting more, it'd now go from cutting more to cutting a little, cutting nothing and then adding in that freq range set by ctrl 1)

ringmod is super sweet! could it go even slower? and the ctrl 0, could it control the "band" (like EHX ring thing)? I don't know enough about ring modulators. I just don't use the ctrl 0 a lot, throwing ideas out there.

pitch is warming up to me, big time. It'd be really cool if one of the pitches on clean was "shittier" but faster. like classic/polyphonic on the whammy or some such. sacrifice sound quality for glitch and speed on one of them, and the other as is. right now i rarely ever use two.

delay! the modulation is really weird and cool and it does stand out, but i find myself mostly using it for noise. maybe some other crazy thing as an alternative. try for reverse? leave as is, and when 100% it's reverse? threshhold for stutter?

dirt thoughts overall: it doesn't do much at the start of a sweep. when it really gets in there i like it, but i'm not finding a lot of middle ground, so i don't use it a whole lot into a clean amp or without the notch filter setting (or filter one). it does its' thing though and i really like it when it does.

All of this will probably come off as me not liking it but it's in fact very much the other way around. I like it and use it so much that I think about what it could do as well, and if it never does that's okay too. If it was any other pedal that didn't do what I wanted I'd just replace it. This does what I want and more, these are just changes that'd suit my applications better.

that'd be cool too but right now i can't use the expression with my goatkeeper because of.. electric stuff?

where would you fit that switch? all my changes were in programming. it's a pretty tight build as it is.
