You could also get more out of the spin controls by taking advantage of the fact that you have 8 patches. That way patch 1 might be only bit crushing (ctrl 1) and ctrl 0 and 1 could control some advanced modulation. Patch 2 the same except sample rate reduction. Patch three the same except ctrl 1 does both SRR and bit crushing (both at some fixed rate). Etc...
